 Acne Causes and Cures
Acne:the Disease, the Causes, the Cure and the Myths
 by Muna wa Wanjiru

When you find blackheads(a lesion where trapped sebum and bacteria partially open to the surface and turn black due to the skin pigment melanin) on the face, neck, and upper part of the chest , upper arms and back, to the extent that you can not remove your clothes to anyone, its actually the blockage of oil glands that cover the skin by a bacteria strain, bacteria propionibacterium acnes, that feeds on the oil. The oil glands and the bacteria invite the body white blood cells to fight this intruder causing blemishes called comedones, usually in 14-day to 21-days , that are very hard to remove, a phenomenon referred to as acne. 75% of the world adult and teen population actually suffer from the dreaded acne.

Acne is caused by a myriad of factors, namely; Human Genetic Configurations; This is the inborn part played by the nuclear and extranuclear cellular structures in the human body. This means that acne can be inherited from the parents. Stress; When one is stressed, there is an enormous release of Cortisone, one of the principal hormones of the adrenal gland, converted to cortisol before use by the body. It has a powerful acne anti-inflammatory properties. Body Hormonal Imbalances; This is the imbalance of the secretion from a ductless gland which passes in the bloodstream to excite activity in other tissues.

Diet; Excessive salt intake, and some hormones found in milk and peanuts, changes in humidity, and high levels of calcium and magnesium clog the oil pores on the skin thus causing acne. For an Acne free face consider diets like linseeds, fish, Vitamin A, (carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, spinach, kale) and Vitamin E. Drink herbal tea rosehip and chamomile tea, with a teaspoon of primrose oil added. This soothing mix both tones the skin will adding additional moisture. A wide variety of skin soothing herbal teas are available at health stores.

Cosmetics; Some cosmetics when applied on the body as makeup produce chemicals which clog the body skin pores, a good ingredient for accelerating acne.

Men and Women suffer equally from both genetically and stress related acne, but the hormonal imbalances are greatly skewed towards men who often feel severe pain when it occurs on the chest and back, places where it is difficult to treat.

One of the best treatments for acne is the administration of 10% benzoyl peroxide (applied twice daily); which applied on the skin could kill virtually all the bacteria, although 5 % could be sufficient without over-drying, combined with clindamycin. Some itchiness usually occurs just after application which leads to redness of the skin for a couple of weeks.

Its important to give this acne cure time to work. Give it one to two months of continual application in order for you to see the results. Changing acne treatment products week after week will increase the infection rather than cure it. The treatment regimen given above will only serve as a guide. Its important to search for dermatologists who specialize in acne treatment for an approved personalized regimen.
